Street Kids

Nanzikambe Outreach works regularly in the community, supporting various drama and enterprise groups. One of these has been the Chisomo Children’s Project, which supports street children with food, shelter and resettlement in their families.

Through drama we explored issues important in their lives: child labour, abuse and exploitation, and the realities of life on the street.

The Chisomo children performed, directed by Melissa Eveleigh, at the Street Children’s Advocacy Day, which was enthusiastically received by both the public and the press.

Capacity Building for theatre groups – training in educational theatre

Working in partnership with the Khamalathu Disability Organisation, we have provided assistance in proposal writing, script development, performance and message delivery for their ongoing community drama programme on the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

In partnership with the Ministry Responsible for Persons with Disabilities the group performed a devised piece of theatre at an event celebrating the World Day of the Disabled on December 3rd 2003. Disabled actors performed alongside able-bodied actors from Nanzikambe in an integrated performance designed to show the wealth of talent and ability often overlooked in disabled people.

YOUTH - MALAWI BRIDGE

Nanzikambe was contracted by the Johns Hopkins Malawi Bridge Project to provide edutainment services at Three (3) National Youth Congresses through the months of July and August of 2005.

The concept that motivated the undertaking of these activities was the need to energise the youth to ‘open-up’ about issues affecting them and provoke them to thought about the HIV/AIDS situation in Malawi. more
